Grandes Séries (27)

"Judge John Deed "

“Created by one of Britain’s most eminent writers, Judge John Deed is compelling television with a charismatic central figure, strong storylines and a tremendous cast. The series aired to great success in Britain, with audiences just below the soaps and beating many popular long-running series in the ratings.
An idealist at heart, the Judge’s more traditional colleagues regard him as something of a renegade. He’s made it to the top of his profession on his own terms, armed with a sharp intellect, a rakish charm, keen wit and passionate belief in justice. Fearless and independent, he is sworn to serve state and sovereign, not the government hacks that constantly try to influence his decisions.
In the first episode, Deed must deal with corruption within the jury, the suspected murder of a barrister and a case connected to a lucrative Government deal with a foreign country during which finalising the contract seems to some more important than seeing justice is done.
Subsequent episodes raise other important questions of justice: a man with the mental age of 13 on trial for murder; the uncovering of a massive mortgage fraud perpetrated by lawyers with the connivance of a judge; children accused of conspiring to murder their parents; and the rights of a 15-year-old boy refusing a heart transplant.
There are problems too away from the courtroom: his tempestuous relationships with Jo Mills and the Rochesters; his student daughter’s pregnancy by a married tutor; and his ex-wife’s engagement to Cabinet Minister Neil Haughton, a man with whom Deed is destined not to see eye to eye.”
